When the global pandemic reached Maine, we didn't know how we would meet the unprecedented need for food access while allowing as few volunteers inside the building as possible to keep our space and staff safe. Lucky for us, on the second morning of quarantine, Chris Chella, a self-employed chef who co-runs Space Is The Place Food, decided he couldn't just sit at home. With his recurring pop-up dinner series cancelled indefinitely, he was about to have a lot of time on his hands. He called Wayside to inquire about volunteering and our response was, "can you come in now?" Chris was on his way to the grocery store but turned around and has been helping in our warehouse 5 days a week ever since. We wouldn't have been able to accomplish what we have without his hard work, dedication, and great attitude and we are so appreciative of all he has done to fight hunger and strengthen our community! You can catch Chris, his team, and their delicious food at A&C Grocery for lunch on Sundays and for breakfast Monday thru Friday.
