Guests enjoy 2011 Thanksgiving dinner at the Portland Club.Wayside Serves 300+ guests at Thanksgiving DinnerThis Thanksgiving, Wayside Food Programs collaborated with the United Way of Greater Portland to serve over 300 individuals a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  The meal, hosted at the Portland Club, was free and open to the public, and gave everyone the opportunity to enjoy a hot meal on this special day.  To see WGME's coverage.“For many, Thanksgiving is the most important and highly anticipated meal of the year,” says Wayside Resource Coordinator Carly Milkowski.  “It means so much to us that we are able to put on this event, and make this meal available to everyone in our community, regardless of need.”Guests enjoyed turkey prepared expertly by the chefs at DiMillo’s Waterfront Restaurant, along with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, vegetables, salad, and of course, pumpkin pie.  A total of 70 volunteers helped prepare and serve the meal along with Wayside staff on Wednesday and Thursday.  Said one guest, “The food was fantastic. The company was excellent. What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. I hope I don’t need to see you next year, but if I do, I will look forward to it.”Wayside would like to extend thanks to the Portland Club and Black Tie Catering for welcoming us into their space, DiMillo’s for cooking all of the turkeys, all of the businesses and individuals who donated food, everyone at the United Way, especially Karen Stephenson, for sharing their experience, time, and resources, and of course all of our wonderful volunteers who spent their holiday making sure that others could have one, too.
